This page explains where the addresses come from, what the licence behind them allows, and what that means for the list you just exported.
The address data is the Geocoded National Address File (G-NAF), produced by Geoscape Australia and released by the Australian Government as open data. We load the current release and refresh it each quarter. The release in use is shown on the tool.
Attribution, as the licence requires:
G-NAF is a record of physical address locations. Each entry is an address and a coordinate.
It does not record who lives or works at an address. Geoscape states that G-NAF does not contain personal information or details relating to individuals. There are no names, no phone numbers, no email addresses and no occupancy information, in the dataset or in anything this service produces from it.
It also records address points rather than postal delivery points. Some addresses in a list will have no letterbox: vacant land, a lot that has been subdivided but not built on, a common property entry for a strata block. You can filter some of these out with the options on the tool, but the check that matters happens on the street.

A person walks the street with the list and puts a notice in each letterbox. That person sees each letterbox as they go, which is both the point of the exercise and the reason the licence permits it.
The G-NAF licence says the data must not be used to generate or compile addresses for the sending of mail unless the user has verified, against a secondary source of information, that each address is capable of receiving mail.

If you intend to post, verify first. A separate source means something independent of this service: a delivery point file, a postal address validation service, or your own records for that address.
We do not obtain, hold or pass on any person’s consent to be contacted. Nothing from this service gives you consent under the Spam Act 2003, the Do Not Call Register Act 2006, or any other direct marketing law. Whether you may contact someone is a question you have to answer for yourself before you contact them.
You are responsible for complying with privacy, spam, direct marketing and any other law that applies to how you use a list, and for meeting any notification requirement your own work is subject to. This includes obligations imposed on you by a council, a regulator, a strata scheme or a contract. The tool produces addresses. It does not advise you on your duties.
The approved display register on this site is compiled from the register published by SafeWork NSW and refreshed daily. Each entry is matched to a map position using G-NAF. It concerns approved displays and the businesses conducting them, and it reproduces information already published by the regulator.
