Notice templates · Builders and renovators
A short, friendly letter that tells the street what is happening, when, and who to call. Copy it, fill in your details and print.
Quick answer: A construction notice tells neighbours what is being built, when work starts and finishes, the approved hours and who to call. Deliver it to every home around the site about a week before work starts, or earlier if your consent conditions say so.
Send it before work starts on a new build, an extension, a knockdown rebuild or anything noisy that runs for more than a day. Many approvals, including complying development certificates in NSW, require written notice to neighbours within a set distance and a set number of days before work begins. Your certifier or council sets the exact rules, so check your conditions first.
It is also worth sending for one-off disruptions on a job that is already running: a concrete pour, a crane lift, a road closure for a delivery or a weekend of out-of-hours work.
Change everything in [square brackets], delete anything that does not apply and check it against your own conditions before you print.
