Pool construction notice to neighbours: free template

Digging a pool is loud for a week and quiet for a month. This letter tells the neighbours which week is which.

A pool being dug next to a house with a small excavator and a worker

Quick answer: A pool construction notice tells neighbours when excavation starts, when the noisy days are (digging, rock breaking, the concrete spray), how machinery gets in and who to call. Deliver it to the homes either side, behind and across the road about a week before the excavator arrives.

When to send it

Send it before excavation starts. The first week is the hard one: an excavator or bobcat, trucks taking spoil away, and sometimes a rock hammer. After that most pool builds go quiet until the concrete spray day and the final fencing.

Neighbours who share a back fence care most about access and dust, so tell them exactly where the machine will come in and how long the fence panel will be out.

To the owner or occupier,

A pool is being built at [site address]

We are building a swimming pool at [site address] for [owner name or “our client”]. Work starts on [start date] and should be finished by [end date].

The noisy days

  • Excavation: [dates]. An excavator and trucks will remove soil through [access point].
  • [Rock breaking, if needed: dates. This is the loudest part and we will keep it to the shortest time possible.]
  • Concrete spray: [date]. A concrete pump will be on [street] for most of the day.

Working hours
[7 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday, 8 am to 1 pm Saturday.]

Fences and access
[We need to remove a section of the fence shared with [neighbour address] for about [number] days. We will put up temporary fencing so it stays safe for children and pets.]

Thank you for your patience. If anything worries you while we are on site, please call [name] on [mobile]. We would much rather hear from you early.

Kind regards,

Tips that save complaints later

  • Tell the back neighbour about any fence panel removal in person as well. It is the one thing most likely to cause a dispute.
  • Give the concrete spray date as soon as you know it. The pump and trucks block the street for hours.
  • If you expect rock, say so. A warning about a rock hammer goes down far better than a surprise.
  • Keep a dated record of who you delivered to.
